Welcome to Wigston Phoenix Running Club. We are the newest club in Leicestershire. We are a friendly, sociable club who cater for all standard of runners in Wigston, Oadby and South West Leicestershire.
Our main training night is Tuesday, when we meet at the Royal British Legion in Wigston.

Marathon Fever

It has been a busy few weeks of marathon running for Wigston Phoenix athletes!
Congratulations to Martin Hulbert who is now a Guinness World Record Holder! In a fantastic time of 2hr49'44" in a fancy-dress costume of a fairy!
Martin may be a World Record Holder, but his Club Record lasted just one week before Tom Drake ran a debut marathon of 2h44'59" at Milton Keynes. This not only earned him 3rd Place overall, but also a championship entry for the 2013 London Marathon.
Club celebrity Colin Baxter finished his training with Runner's World and Asics to run a PB of 3h10'43" at the Paris Marathon.

There were marathon debutants and PBs galore at Paris, London & Milton Keynes. Congratulations to everyone...and for those of you still in training, hopefully it is going to plan.

Hinckley Half Marathon-13th May 2012

The first race in the 2012 LRRL summer league will unfortunately have no club block entry available. This is due to the restrictions placed by the host club Hinckley RC. Individual entry is either online (link available on the fixtures section) or by completed application form (copies available at the Legion). There is a closing date of the 27th April but you are advised to enter earlier as the race is likely to be oversubscribed.

Thursday night training

Thursday night training sessions will now be at the University Manor Road Track. Speed training is a really good way to boost your performance. Meet by the observatory by the track at 7 pm.

2012 Committee

Pete Sylvester was elected to continue as Club Chairman and Mick Jordan was re-elected as Club Treasurer. Mark Thompson has agreed to continue in an amended Club Secretary role. Caroline Neal and Yvonne Dunmore joined the committee as Joint Ladies Captain. Clive Jones is continuing as Men’s Captain. Mike Stiff, Carole Priestley, Julie Cornes and Jo Steane continue with their Officer roles on the committee.
